Why I Got a Job at One of the Most Hated Ski Corporations

So, welcome back new and old friends to the f’n blog, I know what your thinking, without saying the company, I know that you know who it is (No it is not on my lanyard) the hate, the love, the emotional outbursts, the name calling, tear me apart, even down to calling me a traitor, the truth is I don’t give a shit what people say or do, the power that can encompass one’s mind is what keeps me whole, so get it out of the way now, and let’s get down to the next emotion of sadness and disappointment, your asking, “why”, “How Could You”, “Anybody but them”. Explain Yourself Right Now Mister

Alright Sheesh, So I went from setting my season pass on fire 3 years ago in disgust and protest and abusing my indypass instead, to applying for positions and getting hired this season, why because okay they got the point from all angles, employee backlash and social media. Do they still get the point? Probably not fully, large corporations tend just give you enough to shut you up, but that only lasts so long, then there is the issue of employee retention, company damage control, and then a company reorganization. Multiple statements, apologies, and a “rest assured, we hear you”. Trust me I have worked in the corporate environment for close to 20 years, I’m not drinking that bullshit Kool-Aid anytime soon.

I Still Don’t Get it

Ok listen, fuck the perks, the free pass, the benefits, the discounts, it’s not enough to work there, you know what is? The locals, the beginners, the skiers, the boarders, the snow tubers, the tailgaters, the having a bad day, to me cracking a one liner and getting you on that lift, to give that smile, to flipping you off with a smile, to watching you bash the moguls, to greeting you and your family, to watching them grow up. I love my snowsports peeps.

In Closing

You might ask “how can one person change anything”? There are 3 people in life, those who bitch about it, those who are willing to fight the good fight, and those who lead by example to change the culture, the power is in all of you, from the lift, to flipping burgers, to marketing, all of these people have come to run ski resorts, we are a family, don’t bitch about the change fucking be it!
